International campus closure decision puts unwanted attention on AAU institution
Situation:
BMCG was engaged to support this AAU institution as it updated its portfolio of international campuses, including the difficult decision to close a university in Australia, yet keep more controversial programs in Rwanda and Qatar, among other locations.
Actions / Recommendations:
Developed a strategic risk assessment to consider the impacts and consequences of the decision on a) the Australian campus; b) concerns of its other 10 international campuses; and c) the university’s stakeholders at home.
Developed overall communications strategy, all messaging, and derivative materials, including a rollout plan that included political leaders and figures from around the world
Provided on-site support in Australia, including media relations training and contentious meeting training and supported senior leadership who were also on-site
Results:
The closure went smoothly, media coverage was limited, and concern across the institution overall was muted due to the thoughtful, strategic, and compassionate manner in which this closure was announced.
